French Onion Soup

What You Will Need:
  • 4-6 Onions (I used 3 yellow and 3 red)
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 2 tsp. salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tsp. pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Red Wine
  • 4-8 Cups Beef Broth (if you do 6 or more onions I use 8 cups anything less then 6 onions I use 4 cups of beef broth)
  • 1 Tbsp. Better Then Bouillon-Vegetable base

The Bread:
  • 1 Fresh Baguette or your choice of crunchy bread
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1/2- 1 Cup Gruyere Cheese

For The Soup:

Slice your onions in moon shape (crescent-shaped) thin slices. In a large pot on low heat melt your butter with your olive oil. Then add   onions, salt, pepper and garlic powder and let caramelize on low for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Once onions are completely translucent and caramelized add red wine, beef broth and vegetable base and cook over medium heat. Let soup reduce by a third.

Then place your soup in ramekins or oven safe bowls about 1/2 way full.

Once you have toasted your bread, place your bread on top of your soup and sprinkle some gruyere cheese on top.

Place your ramekins on a baking sheet and place them in the oven on broil till cheese is bubbling and oooey gooey !!! Enjoy!

For the Bread:

Cut your baguette of bread on the diagonal to make your pieces a little bit bigger.

Take a basting brush and brush your little breads with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 350 degree's and bake till golden brown and crunchy.
