Decorative Letters for Front Door

My husband and I recently moved in to a new home and naturally we wanted to decorate with some new decorations through out our home. In our old home we decorated with darker furniture. We had rich cabinetry through out our home. So when we were living there we thought dark furniture and black picture frames fit better.

When we got married I started really liking the shabby chic and rustic look. Our entire wedding was shabby chic and rustic feel as we got married in the fall at a winery. Once we moved in to our new home I kind of felt that the shabby chic was cleaner and would make the house look more open and bigger. We have been going that rout in our home and I love the way it looks.

So lets get too it...

What You Will Need:
  • Wooden letter of your choice and size (mine is one of the larger sizes they make because its going to be hanging on my front door.)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue
  • Hemp Cord (come in all kinds of sizes as well you can choose whatever suits you)
  • A few decorative pieces ( I chose some numbers for our address and some little flowers) you can choose just about anything that fits your taste of your home or room that your are decorating.
What To Do:
  • First your going to want to heat up your glue gun and have a bunch of glue ready because sadly you will be going through it quite quickly.
  • Once your glue gun is ready and hot get your hemp and start at one end of your letter and attach a small piece of the hemp to the letter and start wrapping it tightly and closely against each piece thats is previously wrapped.
  • Your going to want to hot glue every time you wrap around once.  This will ensure that the hemp will not unravel or come apart. Also will ensure that the letter looks clean and neat.
  • Once you have completely wrapped your letter with the hemp then you want to attach a a piece of hemp to the back of the top of the letter to be able to hang on the door or wall. The length of the piece on the back doesn't have to be super long, just long enough to be able to hang on the wall or door.
  • Now, you can decorate it however you wish. For mine I placed 3 cute little flowers and glued them in a small little cluster. I also bought some numbers. Since, our letter is going to be going on our front door.
  • Finally, hang and enjoy!
This project was super easy to achieve and super shabby chic. All things that I love. Although, I have not finished mine as of yet... it will get finished. With Halloweeen and now its going to be the holidays before you know it... I have had Halloween decorations and I have fall decor up right now and after Thanksgiving I will have all my Christmas stuff up. So I have plenty of time to finish it. I will post a completed photo once I am done. :)

Post yours below in the comments I would love to see all your guys creations. Happy Holidays Guys!

French Onion Soup

What You Will Need:
  • 4-6 Onions (I used 3 yellow and 3 red)
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 2 tsp. salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tsp. pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Red Wine
  • 4-8 Cups Beef Broth (if you do 6 or more onions I use 8 cups anything less then 6 onions I use 4 cups of beef broth)
  • 1 Tbsp. Better Then Bouillon-Vegetable base

The Bread:
  • 1 Fresh Baguette or your choice of crunchy bread
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1/2- 1 Cup Gruyere Cheese

For The Soup:

Slice your onions in moon shape (crescent-shaped) thin slices. In a large pot on low heat melt your butter with your olive oil. Then add   onions, salt, pepper and garlic powder and let caramelize on low for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Once onions are completely translucent and caramelized add red wine, beef broth and vegetable base and cook over medium heat. Let soup reduce by a third.

Then place your soup in ramekins or oven safe bowls about 1/2 way full.

Once you have toasted your bread, place your bread on top of your soup and sprinkle some gruyere cheese on top.

Place your ramekins on a baking sheet and place them in the oven on broil till cheese is bubbling and oooey gooey !!! Enjoy!

For the Bread:

Cut your baguette of bread on the diagonal to make your pieces a little bit bigger.

Take a basting brush and brush your little breads with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 350 degree's and bake till golden brown and crunchy.
